Minute

On April 9, 2011 a meeting took place between NTO Armenia Coordinator Lana Karlova and Higher Education Reform Experts in Armenia Armen Budaghyan, Samvel Karabekyan, Sasoun Melikyan and Alexander Hakobyan. AEGEE-Yerevan representatives, Erasmus Mundus Alumni Shushanik Khachatryan and Meri Dalaqyan joined the meeting later. It was the first meeting at NTO Armenia new building.

HERE-AM Alexander Hakobyan talked about Seminar for Bologna and Higher Education Reform Experts on Learning Mobility. During the seminar mainly different EU programs and statistic data were presented. The focus was on “Raising the attractiveness of higher education in Europe.”A new Bologna goal had been set up: by 2020 at least 20% of the European graduates should have a period of study or training abroad. In the framework of the seminar each participant took part in 3 workshops. HERE-AM Nvard Manasyan chaired one of the workshops.

Lana Karlova and HEREs discussed the ways of stimulating mobility in Armenian higher education system. Main student mobility obstacles in Armenia were defined:

  • Language proficiency (particularly English)
  • Poor management
  • Competent academic staff
  • Armenian Students’ involvement in different European educational programs
  • Dissemination of information
  • Scale of participants

Lana Karlova showed the PowerPoint presentation she had made in Berlin during a conference “From Imbalanced to Balanced Mobility in EHEA.”

Lana Karlova also presented Belgrade Conference, which celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the Tempus Programme. A particular attention was paid to “Overview of the Higher Education Systems in the Tempus Partner Countries: Eastern Europe” where the overviews of the higher education systems in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russian Federation and Ukraine were presented. In Trends and Challenges section of Higher Education System in Armenia “corruption” was mentioned as a challenge for an effective Higher Education System. However, no other country mentioned any sign of corruption in their overviews. This question was raised by Robert Sukiasyan and Arshak Harutyunyan in Belgrade. Thus, Lana Karlova and HEREs decided to have frequent meetings with ministerial representatives to discuss topics related with the mission of HEREs.

AEGEE-Yerevan representatives presented AEGEE-Yerevan and Higher Education Days Project. They discussed the draft agenda of “Higher Education Days,” which will take place in Yerevan on May 14, 2011. Lana Karlova, Samvel Karabekyan and Sasoun Melikyan agreed to give presentations on certain topics during the event, while Alexander Hakobyan offered his support for the dissemination of information among students.

The participants also agreed on the continuation of the Newsletter publications and on the editing of the existing materials, particularly Armenian version of Newsletter N 5, which needs to be revised and installed in the website.

At the end of the meeting events in June were discussed:

  • 6-7 June, Oslo, UNICA Seminar on “Modernization of Curricula and Student Centered Learning” – http://oslo2011.bolognaexperts.net/
